Lost/Stolen DOE-loaned Devices

Taken directly from the DOE InfoHub

Lost or Stolen DOE-loaned Devices

Families who need to replace an iPad that has been lost or stolen must first file a police report in person at their residential police precinct. In any case where the iPad was lost or stolen, even if it was during delivery of the iPads to families homes, a police report is required.

  • When you get to the precinct, let the front desk staff at the precinct know that you wish to report a lost or stolen iPad that was issued to them by the NYC Department of Education.
  • Note the report number, precinct number, the date the complaint was made, and the name of the person taking the complaint.
  • the officers who assist you should give you a notation of the report number on a form or on a business card with the officer's name and precinct

Once the families have the needed information, they can complete the Tech Support for Families (https://www.nycenet.edu/technicalsupportforfamily) form or call the Help Desk at 718-935-5100 option #5.

  • Your child's school may be able to assist to file the report with the help desk.
  • The replacement items will be shipped to the school, school staff will contact you to arrange a pick up once they receive the replacement items.

Also note:

  • Families will NOT have to disclose their legal/immigration status.
  • NYPD does not report or share this type of information with other government agencies.

Tech Device Update October 2021

October 2021

Good morning families,

As more guidance and information comes to me, I want to share it with you so there is no confusion. There are two different types of devices; centrally loaned devices and school loaned devices.  The iPads that were given out during the Remote school year, either sent directly to your home, or given to you from the school are centrally loaned devices. The Chromebooks given out to the 5th graders are also centrally loaned devices. These are the only devices that will follow your child throughout the DOE. For example, as long as they move on to a DOE middle school, they will take the devices with them. If they leave the DOE, the device must be returned to the school.

School loaned devices are the MacBook Airs. These will be assigned to students to use while they are in this school only. Once they leave this school for any reason, it will be returned to PS 65. There are also certain iPads that are school owned, and in this case you will know if it is assigned to your child.

Please visit our school website for more Technology updates, as this letter and other resources are there for you.

Actualizaciones tecnológicas Octubre de 2021

Octubre de 2021

Buenos dias familias

September 2021

Dear Families,

Welcome back! This year we are a part of the 1:1 initiative which means that all students will have a device assigned to them. If you have already received a device from the DOE directly, then this is the device your child/ren will be using throughout their time in the DOE. These will follow them to middle school and high school as long as they continue in a DOE school. Once they graduate out or are no longer in a DOE school, then these devices must be returned.

We will start handing out devices within this month starting with 5th grade and working our way down to Pre-K. Please bear with us since there is a lot of work that needs to be done to make sure each device is properly distributed. Below you will find a list of requirements, expectations, and resources. These will also be on our school website.

1- All students must know their @nycstudents.net email address and password. Please put this information inside your child’s Technology folder so that your child/ren can access it daily. If you do not know your child/ren’s email address/username OR need to reset the password, please go to the Profile Manager. (https://idp.nycenet.edu/public/forgotpasswd.html)

*Try not to change the password too frequently, this way the students can memorize them.

2- If your child/ren is new to the DOE, and doesn’t have an activated account, please fill out this form. (https://forms.gle/ccZpxvaEqoGXWhue9)

3- All devices should be treated with care.

  • Do not eat or drink near any device.
  • Always close apps and tabs when you are done.
  • Unplug the device when it is fully charged so the battery doesn’t wear out.
  • Wrap the charger up when not in use and store it in a safe place.
  • Keep the device clean and in a safe place.
  • Shut down the device when you are done using it.
  • This device is for DOE students only.

4- Please bring the device to and from school each day. All students will be using devices in their academic classes, as well as in Technology with me. We will be learning about all of the Google apps, Computer Science and more so it is important that these devices are with them each day!

5- In case of a class closure/quarantine, inclimate weather, or any other days where asynchronous/synchronous work will be assigned, the students will need to have a device at home to complete their work.

6- Please return the MacBooks that were loaned out last school year if you haven’t done so already.

If you have any questions, please contact me at vstuto@schools.nyc.gov. I look forward to a fun, adventurous year with your children!

Thank you,

Ms. Stuto

Septiembre 2021

Queridas familias,

Gracias,

Sra. Stuto
